From April 1, 2007 to the end of March 31, 2008, the Province of Saskatchewan received 1726 subdivision applications and approved 4251 sites. This is a 72% increase in sites approved over the 2006/07 year of 2468 sites approved.

The Ministry is responsible for administering various grants and financial assistance programs to municipalities. This includes exclusive provincial programs and joint federal/provincial programs. In addition, the ministry also provides the following services:

  • advice and guidance on completing related grant application/form(s), eligible costs, application processes, application status, and announcement of approved projects;
  • calculation and payment of unconditional grant amounts, processing conditional grant(s) and Grants-in-Lieu of Property Taxes payments; and
  • interpretation of legislation as it relates to the various programs.

A list of our current programs is available below.  Some programs are delivered from our Regina offices, while others specific to Northern Municipalities are delivered from our La Ronge office. Please click on the name of a specific program to get more information on each program.

Provides approximately $147.7 million to Saskatchewan municipalities to help build communities. For more information about this program or contact information, checkout this page. 

The Government of Canada has provided Public Transit Funds to support investment in public transit infrastructure in cities and communities.  For more information about this program, see this page.

Grants-in-lieu are grant payments from the province to municipalities. You can find the listing of grants-in-lieu of taxes payments for this fiscal year, on this page.

Provides per-capita funding to municipalities to strengthen the provincial economy.  Checkout this page for more information and details.

Provide a source of unconditional funding to each municipality to support the delivery of municipal services.  These funds are utilized on the basis of locally determined priorities. For more details, checkout this page.

To provide financial assistance to participating cities and towns in support of special needs transportation services for persons with disabilities. Details and application forms are available on this page.

Provides financial and technical assistance to northern communities for the construction or upgrading of municipal facilities and for the acquisition of municipal equipment. For more details and application forms, checkout this page.

This program will provide municipalities with interest rate subsidies for up to five years on $300 million of municipal borrowing. For more details and application forms for this program, checkout this page.

Five-year agreements to cooperate and collaborate on areas of shared interest and priority between the governments of Canada and Saskatchewan, and the cities of Regina and Saskatoon. For more information, view this page.
