The Policy Development Branch:
- Provides leadership and advice in the development, monitoring and review of public policy, legislation, strategies and programs;
- Coordinates or undertakes policy and program reviews, research and analysis and developing policy proposals for government;
- Recommends and prepares legislation and regulations that provide a legal framework for municipalities, and providing comprehensive legislative support services within the ministry;
- Coordinates annual preparation of the division's strategic plan;
- Prepares Cabinet decision items, information items and submissions to Treasury Board;
- Participates in interministry and intergovernmental policy initiatives; and
- Represents the ministry with stakeholders in interministry and intergovernmental committees and in consultations and negotiations.
