Did You Know? Saskatchewan municipalities received a 7 per cent increase in revenue sharing in the 2008-09 provincial budget, and a further 8 per cent increase was announced in April of 2008. The government is committed to developing a long-term revenue sharing agreement in consultation with municipalities. Ministry Overview Grants Administration & Financial Management BranchThe Grants Administration & Financial Management Branch is comprised of three units and delivers service in the following areas:
Grants Administration The section administers financial assistance to the municipal sector including Revenue Sharing, joint federal-provincial Infrastructure programs, Grants in Lieu of taxes and Municipal Transit Assistance for People with Disabilities. Financial Information This section provides technical expertise to municipal administrators, clerks, and auditors relating to financial reporting standards and policies. It compiles and generates statistics on municipal financial performance and financial health. New Deal Secretariat - Federal Gas Tax Program The Federal Gas Tax Program provides approximately $147.7 million to Saskatchewan municipalities over 5 years (2005-06 to 2009-10) to help build municipalities in Saskatchewan. Funding is allocated to municipalities on a per capita basis for environmentally sustainable municipal infrastructure projects and for projects that increase the capacities of communities in areas such as long term planning. These federal funds support the environmental outcomes of cleaner air, cleaner water and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The New Deal Secretariat was established by the province to administer the gas tax program on behalf of the federal government.
