Minister of Municipal Affairs
Did You Know?

Saskatchewan municipalities received a 7 per cent increase in revenue sharing in the 2008-09 provincial budget, and a further 8 per cent increase was announced in April of 2008. The government is committed to developing a long-term revenue sharing agreement in consultation with municipalities.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan was established in 1995 by Canada Post, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM), and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.

The award is presented to an individual who has not been formally recognized for his or her achievements and contributions to rural Saskatchewan.  The presentation of this award is a tradition at the opening ceremonies of the SARM Annual Convention and is presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.

Nominations are submitted to the SARM office.  To qualify for the award, the nominee must be a retired rural municipal reeve, councillor or administrator.  A selection committee reviews the nominations to select one individual for his or her achievements in making rural Saskatchewan a better place to live.

The deadline for nominations each year is the last Friday in January.  Nomination forms can be obtained from SARM at sarm@sarm.ca
