Did You Know? In an effort to ensure municipalities are ready for growth, the provincial government announced the Saskatchewan Infrastructure Growth Initiative in the 2008-09 budget. Through the program, municipalities will be able to access $300 million over four years for five-year, interest-free loans to assist with the cost of lot development to support housing, commercial and industrial construction. Strategic Stakeholder Initiatives The Northern Municipal RoundtableThe Northern Municipal Roundtable (NRT) meetings were established in 1996, and are co-chaired by the Minister of Municipal Affairs, the Minister responsible for Northern Affairs, and the Chairperson of New North. The roundtable meetings focus on northern issues and provide an opportunity for government ministries to discuss issues with northern elected officials. Ministers from other ministries are invited to the Northern Roundtable on an issue by issue basis. Northern municipalities can present their views to ministers and senior officials from various ministries, and ministers and their ministries can present issues or initiatives for discussion or information to municipal leaders. Roundtable meeting agendas are developed through consultation with New North and other ministries.
