In an effort to ensure municipalities are ready for growth, the provincial government announced the Saskatchewan Infrastructure Growth Initiative in the 2008-09 budget. Through the program, municipalities will be able to access $300 million over four years for five-year, interest-free loans to assist with the cost of lot development to support housing, commercial and industrial construction.

Urban Revenue Sharing

2008-2009 BUDGET:         $77,941,000 

Unconditional Grants

Urban Revenue Sharing totals $77.9 million in 2008-2009.  The cities will receive $54.1 million and the towns, village and resort villages will receive $23.7 million which is a 15.6% increase from 2007 - 2008.

Towns, Villages and Resort Villages

The 2008-2009 distribution for the towns, villages and resort villages is a $2,025 base amount, plus $118.47 per capita based on the 2006 census populations. Two municipalities that would have a grant decrease using the distribution formula will have their grants frozen at the 2007-2008 amounts.

Cities

The 2008-2009 distribution for the cities is $101.52 per capita based on the 2006 census populations.
