The Ministry of Municipal Affairs (MA), in consultation with the Saskatchewan Municipal Board (SMB), the Municipal Financing Corporation of This program will provide municipalities with interest rate subsidies for five years on $300 million of municipal borrowing. The borrowing is spread over four years (2008-09 to 2011-12) at $75 million per year. The initiative is a key component of the government’s growth agenda, as it will serve to provide another option to fund municipal infrastructure related to lot development. Municipal Affairs’ 2008-09 budget includes $2.4 million for SIGI to allow the province to provide interest rate subsidies to municipalities for approved borrowing under the program. The application deadline for the 2008-09 fiscal year was May 31, 2008. The application deadline for subsequent fiscal years is September 30, beginning with September 30, 2008 for the 2009-10 fiscal year. The application guide and forms required to submit an application to the SIGI program are available below.
