Did You Know?

From April 1, 2007 to the end of March 31, 2008, the Province of Saskatchewan received 1726 subdivision applications and approved 4251 sites. This is a 72% increase in sites approved over the 2006/07 year of 2468 sites approved.

Latest News:

  • Deadline - The application deadline for the 2010-11 fiscal year is September 30, 2009.
  • Important changes to the SIGI Program:  Recent changes to the SIGI Program will improve how the interest subsidy grant is made.
    • The interest rate will now be established on a project, rather than program, basis.  Municipalities that borrow from Municipal Financing Corporation of Saskatchewan (MFC) will receive an interest rate subsidy equal to the rate in which they borrrow.  Municipalities that borrow from private institutions will receive an interest rate subsidy based on the MFC rate for a similar term as their loan agreement, as of the date the municipality and financial institution agree in writing on a rate.
    • The interest rate subsidy grant may be made for up to five full years, rather than five fiscal years.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs (MA), in consultation with the Saskatchewan Municipal Board (SMB), the Municipal Financing Corporation of Saskatchewan (MFC) and the municipal sector, developed the criteria and application form for the Saskatchewan Infrastructure Growth Initiative (SIGI).

This program will provide municipalities with interest rate subsidies for up to five years on $300 million of municipal borrowing.  The borrowing is spread over four years (2008-09 to 2011-12) at $75 million per year.  The initiative is a key component of the government's growth agenda, as it will serve to provide another option to fund municipal infrastructure related to lot development.
