This is a 72% increase in sites approved over the 2006/07 year of 2468 sites approved. Grant/Financial Assistance Programs Federal Public Transit FundsThe Government of Canada has provided Public Transit Funds to support investment in public transit infrastructure in cities and communities. The Public Transit Funds are allocated to the municipalities based primarily on 2004 ridership figures of existing public transit systems. These funds are intended to result in the environmental outcomes of cleaner air and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The Public Transit Funds are provided under the following two different arrangements: 1. Bilateral Agreement 2. Public Transit Capital Trust The New Deal Secretariat administers both programs.
