Did You Know?

Saskatchewan municipalities received a 7 per cent increase in revenue sharing in the 2008-09 provincial budget, and a further 8 per cent increase was announced in April of 2008. The government is committed to developing a long-term revenue sharing agreement in consultation with municipalities.

Do you wish to seek a position for elected office in your municipality?  Please check out the Election Forms page (link below) for the appropriate nomination form to download.  Contact your municipality for the nomination period.

  • Form D-RM (for rural municipalities)
  • Form I (for urban municipalities with a population of 20,000 or less)
  • Form J (for urban municipalities with a population of 20,000 or more)

The next municipal elections occur as follows:

  • 2009 Elections:
    • Cities and (southern) Towns and Villages – October 28, 2009
    • Resort Villages – July 25, 2009
    • Northern municipalities (Northern towns, Northern Villages and Northern Hamlets) – various dates in the fall of 2009 that are locally determined
    • Rural Municipalities – November 4, 2009 (for even-numbered divisions only)

A summary of recent municipal elections is as follows:

  • In 2008, Rural Municipalities held elections for reeve and council positions in odd numbered divisions on November 5, 2008.
  • In 2007, Rural Municipalities held elections for reeve and council positions in even numbered divisions on October 31, 2007.
  • 2006 was an exciting election year in Saskatchewan.
    • Resort Village elections were held on July 22
    • Urban elections were held October 25
    • Rural Municipality elections were held November 1 for odd numbered divisions
    • Northern municipal elections were held in the Fall of 2006 – contact your municipal office.
