The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association has developed a Municipal Sustainability Planning Guide.

The Alberta Association of Municipal Districts & Counties' (AAMDC) position paper on what it means for a municipality to be viable with some guidelines on how to assess viability.  It proposes an assessment by municipalities using various indicators to understand where their specific areas of challenge may lie and to think about the different options available that will improve viability in the future.
