Project Examples for Each Eligible Project Categories

  1. Regional Studies - baseline studies or inventories to determine partnerships and assets for future growth:
  • Watershed (Regional) level flood elevation mapping;
  • Regional settlement and development patterns;
  • Regional infrastructure growth/partnership analysis;
  • Regional transportation planning;
  • Regional resource development planning strategies (wind farms, potash, aggregate, oil & gas);
  • Regional level identification and management of hazard lands restricting development;
  • Environment management study to inform development decisions (e.g. identification of areas subject to slope instability, identification of environmental setbacks to ensure lakeshore protection, drainage issues, location of endangered species or habitats); or,
  • Regional level tourism, parks, recreation or trail developmentplanning.
  1. Relationship Building - to facilitate the preparation of agreements, plans or strategies
  • Professional, mediation or facilitation services to assist in:
    • updating/amending existing planning district agreements to improve function;
    • development of new municipal groups interested in forming a planning district;
    • development of an inter-municipal agreement for municipal reserve; or,
    • development of inter-municipal infrastructure and servicing agreements or arrangements.
  1. Planning Capacity - activities that build local or regional capacity and facilitate the preparation of agreements, or statutory plans:
  • Development of a Planning District with a District Planning Commission;
  • Development of, or transition from a District Planning Commission to a Planning District, with a District Planning Authority;
  • Hiring of new permanent planning staff servicing a planning district; or,
  • Hiring contract planning staff to update, negotiate or prepare an agreement, district official community plan w/associate zoning bylaws, regional strategies or studies, integrated community sustainability plans.
  1. Other - The program will consider any other request that shows significant regional planning benefit and will be implemented through a formal inter-municipal arrangement or other legal mechanism.
