Legislation requires that all properties in Saskatchewan be revalued once every four years.  The most recent province-wide revaluation year was 2005, with the next one occurring in 2009.

The 2009 revaluation will use a market value standard for residential and commercial properties or non-regulated property asessments.  It will be more flexible and results-focused and will align Saskatchewan's assessment system more closely with assessment in other jurisdictions throughout Canada.

For 2009, the base date used for assessment values will be June 30, 2006.  This ensures that assessed values aremore current and that property owners can better understand these values, although this base date means that some recent increases in property values will not be reflected in the 2009 assessments.

One of the key responsibilities that Municipal Affairs has with each revaluation is to undertake analysis and make recommendations to Cabinet respecting province-wide property classes and percentages of value that are applied to asessed values in order to calculate taxable assessments.
